I was driving my rusted-out VW Rabbit, when at a stop light, a gang of squeegee boys surrounded the car. I didn't want a brick in the rear window, but I only had a ten-dollar bill. I stepped out of the car, and lifted the bill in one hand, telling the joggers that whoever would give me the most back in change would get the bill. They could have eaten me up for lunch, but I had my other hand in the pocket of my worn-out leather jacket, ss they preferred to beat up each other until the largest guy, with complete honesty and simplicity in his eyes, gave me $8.50. When I told the story in Manhattan, they didn't believe I was still alive.
Not showing fear (I was not afraid, anyway), and having a hand in the pocket may have saved the day. Dunno. My opinion is that it was not my time to die. :)

When it comes to who a "racist" is, I guess, I am a mental issue. Color DOES matter. Humans are born racists and anyone who doesn't realize that would need more time to reconsider. Being born a racist doesn't mean one must behave as such, but being aware might help with avoiding the pattern.
FYI, in soccer, one of the best and nicest guys in my life was black from Africa, but he was also a chemist (UK)/pharmacist (US), and his culture was fully compatible with mine.
