True; small things ARE important, but how about the big things?
You may have noticed that I didn’t publish anything yesterday and the day before. Here is the reason, why.
In whole my life, I have been learning from books and from personal experience, and this time, I have compiled a synthesis of what makes people sick.
This is NOT a piece of journalism in the sense I’ve been publishing on Substack. This is distilled knowledge for which my whole life was needed. I have several years of experience working with doctors, hospitals, volunteering in the VA, and supporting psychiatric patients in their homes, so much of my knowledge is not exactly bookish, despite my doctoral degrees and other qualifications.
I am keeping the journalistic style in order to make sure the material is easily comprehensible and accessible. At the moment, there are 40 footnotes that are essential parts of the paper, and reading them with the links included requires the reader to invest substantial amount of time. All I can guarantee is that it will be worth your time.
While I do believe that this next publication will be unique, I am concerned that it will still be received as a piece of journalism that you can read with your morning coffee. No, it deserves more: this is something you won’t find anywhere else, which is true for quite a few of my previous pieces, but somehow, that tends to go unnoticed most of the time, so I feel pressed to ask for your opinion.
This time, I would like to insist that I am not a dime-a-dozen author, but need your advice regarding the way I can make sure readers will not treat my next “article” as one of the many. It is not.
I am keeping my promise that I am not charging anyone on Substack for any contents, all the more so, because most of my readers are already contributing in comments or are authors themselves. Many cannot afford to pay, either, and depriving them from my piece wouldn’t be fair; their considerate and responsible approach might save the world by influencing their contacts, anyway. Also, my life is not for sale; I can offer it only as I want to. In memory of those, whose lives and suffering made it possible to compile this material, I would like to do it “for free.” Of course, if you ask my wife, who is helping me out a lot (not with this upcoming piece) your contributions will be appreciated, especially after reading this upcoming treatise, because I am still running this site for $5 a day. Out of over 1,200 subscribers, 14 consider to support me more than supporting other authors.
Please, advise me in the comment section regarding how you believe I will be able to make sure this article will not be treated as a newspaper article, but something that is a lot more valuable.
I will consider your advice and publish accordingly, hopefully early tomorrow.
Thanks Ray. The distillation of your life isn't any coffee break read. Polite suggestion only.
There a too many post on ss that are far too long & long winded.
Breaking your story into short chapters may help keep readers attention & concentration better.
I can only offer mundane suggestions. I am not very creative and marketing is not my strong suit.
Clickbait headlines and sensationalist approaches are disdainful IMO. If the information is solid, it will speak for itself and your personal integrity. For those with eyes to see and ears to hear... smth like that.
I would recommend using a powerful, attractive and relevant image to lead the article and posting on Gab.com
