ahh, Prof Ray , the pursuit of the holy grail of...[insert your folly]...if you read the many petrol head mags online reviews, the surprising thing is that comments by&large are often in agreement that there's more joy to be had with a $5k, 20hp retro m/bike with buggerall electronic 'aid'frills, than with a$50k 200hp fire breathing 2-wheeled guided missle...BTW, this ol'mechanics hi-fi [sic] unit is a 40yr old boombox that was rescued from the 2020 housefire [alas,800 books were not]...Haydn,Handel,Rameau sound ok to this ol'mechanics ears as static&distortion seem to augment audio colors, ha,ha

It's so good to have you around. I just wish you stopped calling me "professor." I am only a human being and if I had ever started this Substack with my credentials, I would probably have 10-20 times more readers. Still, I want to stick to honest people like you, who are able and willing to think on their own and are unassuming. I've never cared for anyone agreeing with me. This site is for my readers.

Used to be a biker myself, but this is not the time. :)

The one good thing I learnt at that time that I wouldn't want to fix what aint' broke. :)

Augmenting audio sounds good to me these days.

Ray even though I am originally drawn to the philosophical aspects of this essay I cannot help by thinking you could make a career (or even help out idots like me) out of your audio knowledge.

Have you thought about that?

That's nice of you... In fact, I know more about many things than "experts," although I keep the level here are journalism; otherwise, I would have no readers, and I'm here to help them by entertaining, informing, and inspiring them.

I would find it despicable to pose as a "Dr" or a "PhD", although I would have all the rights to do that. In my opinion, everybody has to prove themselves EVERY SINGLE TIME, which no "degree" can help with.

The article is about helping about people, and I am more than willing to answer your questions. :)

Okay, "gifts" and "paid subscriptions" are welcome, but I knew, when I started it would never be about money.

Inspired by your appreciation, I made adjustments (eliminated typos and added a few sentences about details). :)

It is I, who must thank YOU! This site wouldn't exist without readers! :)

Somehow, music tells it all, but only a few would listen and even fewer can hear.

You should see our ragtag different ages sound system. The newest thing is the sound bar/speakers, which replaced big cloth-covered ones. There are 9 remotes, Hub was an electronic's Prof. So things range from CD, VHS, and Cassettes. Old portable radios rebuilt, Popcorn tins of diodes, transistors he stripped from unrepairable items. One old half-finished tube radio he can't get tubes for would make a nice decorative furniture piece if we had floor space for it. He's set his Ham Radio station up in our 1 guest room. 60 years of collecting and restoring. One I can operate the TV remote for on/off channel changer, and volume. The vinyl collection also shares the next bottom cabinet space. Then he discovered Youtube music. 60's to 90's music.

And those, whose souls are filled with songs, will find others' songs beautiful!

Thanks! This really hits home. I live in a house disguised as a recording studio. It is a rare moment when there isn't the sound of good live music. But try to convince the musicians the music can never be "perfect". It is always perfect they just don't share the sentiment.
