Most likely this response isn't exactly what you are looking for...but for some reason I thought it would fit. Whatever Doesn't Break You...

When I was in Junior high school back in the 1960's, I was bullied. One day I was bullied in the front of my house and my father watched from the window and didn't interfere. When I was done having my ass beat and came in, he said, do you like being beat up? He said, I've got weights, lift them and get stronger and learn how to fight back. So that is what I did. I found out that as I fought back that the bullies were getting their asses whipped. I reached a point where I became fearless against bullies.

The first week of Senior high I was walking through the locker room and a tennis shoe came flying out of nowhere right into my face, bottom first. Dirt in my eyes. A tall skinny black dude, (no racism here, just facts) was laughing his ass off. He thought it was hilarious. I asked him if he threw the shoe...his response was, "Big Ben did." pointing to another black student. I walked up to "Big Ben" and said did you throw that shoe? He said..."Yeah, watcha" was the most he got out as I literally attacked him and beat the living shit out of him. I had him down and was smashing his head into a bench when the Coach came out and broke us apart. Turned out "Big Ben" was a senior. I was a Junior. Two years difference. And he was big, BUT so was I. He was the heavy weight wrestling champ and got his ass beat by the new guy in the 10th grade. "Big Ben" would see me in the hall and say, "Hey Mark, if you ever need my help, I'll be there." Yeah, I'll need his help! LOL!.

As my life progressed I became a HATER of bullies and I have absolutely no fear of them in the least bit. Cop bullies, government bullies, I don't give a shit. I'm also the kind of guy that can look in a window at a shopping mall and watch the reflections of people staring at me. I'm 6'4" tall, weight 245, have two 2nd degree black belts in two martial arts styles, and can hammer curl 50 pounds 75 reps with each arm at the age of 68 and have video proof. I'm the guy that the bad guys don't want to have to deal with. Plus I'm an expert shot and carry a Glock 30 .45 ALL THE TIME including in my own house.

Am I bragging? No, because it's the truth. And my attitude is I don't give a flying rats ass what anyone thinks about me. As long as I don't harm anyone...UNDESERVED, I'm happy with myself. I grew from being a cowardly lion (My family crest is a lion) as a bullied kid to the Courageous Lion that I am today. Anyone mess with me or my family and they will find out it was a big mistake.

That's kind of like my story, except I'm only 5'11" and 184, but it was the same in my story. Last time I was beaten was at the age of 10 and that was it. A lot older and a lot stronger morons tried to bully me after that and I beat them up without any difficulties (my measurable reaction time was 0.1 sec and I did 40 pushups without a problem on my fists or on my knuckles), but I was 19 the last time I had to show off with a few fake punches and fake kicks. The guy literally backed off the 30-yard factory yard and I didn't have to hit or kick him.

After that (which happened here in KY only eight years ago), I simply had to warn the bully that there are 287 point on the human body that I can hit with a thumb, with an index finger, with the bottom of my palm etc. and asked him to take it outside my home, but I couldn't guarantee that he would survive. (KY is a castle state and a stand your ground state) He actually rushed at me inside my house with two witnesses around, but I simply stepped back and warned him. My Glock 19 is an extension of my body, but I could have killed the moron with a choke hold or worse. I told him, I didn't care for that sort of thing and I never saw him again, despite my "invitation" later, telling him that I was always ready to prove that I was not afraid, despite his being 30 years younger and ten times stronger. Just wanted to make sure he would understand. :) He apparently did, and I'm happy for him; he wouldn't have lasted for more than a few seconds, because I was a lot faster, smarter, and I knew where to deliver a blow... He wanted to extort $750 out of me for a job he had never even started...

I also care for the opinion of only those who care for me and I would never hurt a fly (my wife is good at catching those with her hand! :) ).

Funny, I also have a family crest, but I forget what it it; maybe it's time for me to find out before I die. :)

Sticks & stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.

Years ago I escaped a short abusive marriage. The emotional scars took much longer to heal.

But they did!

(I was happily divorced for many years.

Never expected to be married again and I have been for 2 years now. But I digress & can’t think of anything clever to end with. We aren’t” riding off into the sunset “, we’re managing the inflation. But happily together)

The saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is not so much an inviolable rule, as an affirmation. It's to condition the self to not be hurt by words, because it is unnecessary and maintaining inner composure is helpful. This affirmation drives the point home, so that by the time you hear the hurtful words, you might remember. :)

Sad as it is, both stick and stones and words can break anyone. One of modes the torture has been to play the same tune a million times. It would take a lot less on me; just play CNN for a few minutes, I'll confess to ANYTHING!

There is no "we." The only way to "manage" the inflation is to issue a new currency, and that sort of thing has never worked quite well...

Language manipulates. We are metaphor and consequently as Heideggerian Man, are submerged in cacophony of malaprop and madness. A rapid fire assault since birth on our personhood.

Can we, pretty please, leave Heidegger out of it? I am available for phone conversations for such erudite options, and I would REALLY enjoy every minute of them, especially after your acute and cognizant contributions. :)

Malaprop it is, but what's the difference? This is not a philosophical question on my end; I am interested in whatever affects everyone, one way or another.

Now, is there a way for you and I to indulge in personal conversation. I have a few landlines, if you believe that makes a difference, but other solutions might work, too.

I use a cell. I am not against to phone chats but rarely have them. Rarely use Zoom etc. I am very hard of hearing and conversation by phone is not as it was. Shoot me a mail with a number and we can set up a time.

“LIFE ISN’T FAIR.” I learned this saying when I was under 5 y/o! As my dad used to say, “When you were born did you come with a contract that everything would be perfect????” That’s how all of us learn. Losing and getting screwed over once in awhile is just life. Period

Love that one. How about "there is no truth"?

It's just a good idea to collect all this crap into a list that includes why they fail! That, however, raises a challenge! It also has to sound idiomatic...

I barely recall adages. These tend to be wrenched out of context also. Especially in the journey some take to wind up in American discourse. From 1723 we have a stitch in time saves nine. The phrase basically means it's better to solve a problem right away, to stop it becoming a much bigger one. The idea is that sewing up a small rip with one stitch means the tear is less likely to get bigger, and need more - or, well, nine - stitches later on. And so it is my feelings stitch a literary quote early in the morning after I rise and shine to start the live long day loading sixteen tons getting another day older and deeper in debt to the company store.

Let's play nice, girls. :)

Go for what works; there are always plenty of exceptions!

And yes, everyone knows plenty of manipulative idioms...

The quote is usually attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche: Was mich nicht umbringt macht mich stärker. This quote is a part of aphorism number 8 from the Maxim and Arrows, a section of the Twilight of the Idols by Friedrich Nietzsche. Usually, the use of this quote is for obstacles and struggles we make in our lives, makes us stronger, and adds to our wisdom.

Look, this is about John Wayne, who had 30 pounds of meat in him for his autopsy. :)

Other than that, Nietsche's Ubermensch has been misunderstood in just about all possible ways. Nietsche lost his mind in the marketplace, because he couldn't put up with the way a coachman was treating his horse. Most people couldn't care less about what is done to other people.

Please, with your background, I'm sure you can add a few more phrases; after all, that's what this post is all about!

You're right, I mostly don't care what is done to other people. Defenseless animals, including horses, is a whole 'nother story. Thank-you for elevating Nietzsche in my mind.

Sadly, most "other people" are perhaps even more defenseless than animals...

Right, but it needs a context...

As long as you have faith, it is never too late.

It just needs to be presentable.

Other than that, it looks quite accurate!
