The ‘sacrifice’ seems to me the natural cause of human religious building since the dawn of such doings. Joseph Campbell documents this in his ‘Historical Atlas of world Mythology’, a lovely and extensive historical journey through many cultures depicted in their Art that has survived the ages.
The devotional systems all arose to (provide some kind of ‘grounding’)from Mankind’s fear and uncertainty.
My thinks- all these systems have been become in conflict, dare I say obsolete, since the arrival of ‘the scientific method’.
Which leaves inquiry and ‘facts’ open ended to be usurped by discovery and new questioning.
