There’s a fairly large stand of milkweed that adorns the driveway, most neighbors are chemlawn types, save for the ones on either side of me, they stopped when I mentioned it’s not good for their pets 😉, and just relax about the dandelions as they are great medicine.
The milkweed attracted a good many a monarch caterpillars this fall. I took a particularly fat one with a good supply of the only food it eats in a half gallon jar with sprouting lid on our vacation last month. A transient pet for the household, two days later ‘Fred’ made his cocoon in a half hour’s time while no one was checking on him. A monarch cocoon is a beautiful thing, lime green with metallic gold dots. Seven days later i retuned home with Fred. I needed to be back in our gallery shop to do end of month reports for September. I brought him into the shop with me Friday 9/30 as his cocoon had gone translucent, guessing his hatch was near and not wanting him to be trapped in the jar at home.
It was busy in the shop and I missed him beginning to emerge but I had the cocoon suspended between two glasses. Amazing to me how this magic happens!
He hung by the top of his former cocoon for hours as his wings inflated and grew.
When I had to leave that evening I put him outside on the porch of the shop in a small open box to protect him from the wind and rain. The remnants of hurricane Ian were visiting.
The next morning Fred, renamed Ian, was still there on the porch but had left the box, in a wings together parked position, he was on the bottom rung of the porch bench where he stayed all day. Late afternoon I checked on him and found him walking across the porch! Not wanting him to get stepped on I placed him up in a hanging flower basket. Ian explored a few of the many orange Thumbergia blossoms and assumed again a wings up parked position near the top of the plant. Ian, the storm brought three cold rainy days, Ian the Monarch, clung frozen to the plant the entire time. Monday morning he was still there, Ian the storm had passes and the day was bright and sunny, the warmth and brightness of the sun was moving across the porch and landed on the Thumbergia flowers and Ian about 10:30. 10-15 min of direct sunshine seemed to transfer enough ‘energy’ to Ian. He flexed his wings repeatedly for about 30 seconds and took off into to sky, looped down and passed by the length of the porch then off to do what ever it is that Monarch butterflies do.
All the miraculous happenings and he never had to go to school or be told how to be a monarch.

When they "break" some bogus stories to the public, there is actually no evidence at all and no real documents provided. The public has been trained to accept whichever hogwash from the "media."
