I had to hang up on Optus (Australia) recently because they'd added an address and wanted me to confirm it. I wasn't going to do that, the phone is a business one.
Rang back and the guy who answered was quick to help me with my request. The woman before wanted to know who my gg grandmother was (or something like that)
Data collection, if not more. Even MoneyGram, WU and the like are doing it, pretending they are protecting the customer from fraud (fraud does exist, but the data collection is the prominent part).

“ Vodafone started closing 3G services in February 2023 and intends to have their entire 3G network switched off by December 2023, but has no current plans to close 2G before the 2033 deadline. EE will also phase out 3G services throughout 2023, with the network then closing in early 2024, and 2G services will be switched off 'later in the decade'”
Vodafone did not inform me that I no longer can receive 3g calls. There are no 4G mobile services here, so I guess I will be chasing a company who still has 3G.
I have 3G, which is super slow, but I just use my phone for emergencies. Other than that, I pay for a landline. Having a copper wire next to my head brings me peace of mind (:
No regulatory organization is observing HAM, but those, who have their assigned frequencies, report intruders. After the SHTF, it won't be a problem, except it will be easily detectable and can invite a drone strike.
I don’t answer any phone calls anymore. My cell on my phone and Bluetooth are always switched off unless in use. But I do use it to for Satellite wifi. That’s turned off at night.
Only after reading your article I checked why I’m missing expected calls recently when I’ve turned my phone on. Because they switched off my 3G and it’s all I could get here (and 2G). I’m going to fire up my old iPhone 6 to get 2G.
I also have a landline but it’s in another part of the property. Used for expensive calls on mobile and emergencies only.
What about old blackberry phones? I have a drawer full.
This is a fake!!!

By a country mile. But if you push back they normally give you what you're after without signing your life away.
Actually, they refuse service to those, who do not comply. I don't use them.
I should fire up my old WU account and see what they insist on.
Look at this..... please comment on this guy's article..... LILLEY UNLEASHED: Lose the tinfoil hat. Trudeau isn’t after your health data https://ottawasun.com/news/lilley-unleashed-lose-the-tinfoil-hat-trudeau-isnt-after-your-health-data
Turdeau is a sock puppet; perhaps that's what his colorful socks confirm. :)

Good post. Yes we are all hemmed in by our digital technology.
More people on the planet with cell phones than with toilets - that should tell us something.

My family insists on maintaining a landline. Thinking of adding ham radios.
CB radios aren't bad, won't be as regulated as ham.

While you might run into some regulatory problems, it's a good choice.
Landlines are less prone to exposure, but nothing can provide privacy with the exception of pigeon mail. :)
Privacy.? What’s that, lol?.
My bad, sometimes I enjoy talking nonsense. :)
I also have my cell on for a minute or two a day, only to check for messages.
What do you mean by the copper wire? It can act as an antenna.
